Meridian Business Television Holiday Show
Meridian Business Television Holiday Show
Holiday Show....a time for reflection. On this edition of Meridian Business Television, host Randy Lennon and Keith Turner, President and CEO of Meridian Merchant Capital share warm holiday wishes to all their viewers and clients. They also discuss the "year-end" as a time of reflection for business owners. Unless you're in the retail business, many entrepreneurs find some very rare "downtime" at this end of year holiday season. Keith and Randy recommend "taking stalk", which can include reviewing the previous year's results and doing some corporate and personal goal setting for 2012 and the years to come. Keith also takes a look at the year in review from the perspective of an international investment and merchant banker. An incredibly tumultuous year in the financial markets, even the banks are more vulnerable that ever when entire countries, much less companies, face default. At the end of the day, Randy summarizes that it is the small and mid-size business entrepreneurs who are going to drive the economies forward, whether here in North or in Europe and around the world. Happy Holidays from everyone at MBTV and we'll see you in January with a new show every week for 2012! Next show: What is merchant banking and merchant capital?

Most of us lose focus and give up. We are most afraid to believe in our own dreams. Those who do are the true winners. This slice of life film is set in the backdrop of our capital city- Delhi. A city that brings in thousands of North Indians in search of opportunities that was never available in their own home towns. Like-wise, bunch of boys from different states come together to share a two BHK apartment in a middle-class colony, which they lovingly call "Sadda Adda". This film is their story. Sony Pictures to pick up 30% in MAA Television Network
HYDERABAD: As part of a strategic alliance, Sony Pictures Television (SPT), said it will acquire 30 per cent stake in Hyderabad-based MAA Television Network and its bouquet of Telugu channels. The tie-up would enable SPT or any of its affiliates, to acquire the equity stake in MAA TV on signing the definitive agreement. The proposed deal is subject to necessary approvals from the concerned statutory authorities. The majority shareholders of MAA Television Network and SPT have signed a Letter of Interest (LoI) and a definitive agreement will be signed at a later date. The vernacular media and broadcasting industry seems to be on a consolidation mode. Recently, TV18 Broadcast Ltd gobbled up ETV Group, which has a bouquet of channels including news and entertainment. Venture Capitalist Srini Raju is also reportedly in talks with media houses to sell his stake in TV9, the leading Telugu news channel. MAA TV is owned by Nimmagadda Prasad, entrepreneur and founder, Matrix Labs, actor-turned-politician K Chiranjeevi, his brother-in-law, Allu Arvind and actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, together having a control of about 95 per cent of the company's equity capital. "This indicates SPT's faith in MAA TV as a leading Telugu General Entertainment Channel (GEC) network and the growth potential of the regional TV firmament. It will be a win-win formula with many complementary benefits. Besides, such transaction should infuse confidence and augur well for the industry across all sectors," said <b>...</b>

The New Generation Journalists' Union, Azerbaijan Union of Journalists, Media Development Support Public Union and IREX held a two-day forum at the Atropat Hotel to discuss media development across the South Caucasus. Arif Aliyev, the head of the New Generation Journalists' Union, reported that 4300 print outlets were registered in Azerbaijan by March, 2011. Only 8% of them are still operating, which equates to 330 print outlets. 34 of these newspapers are daily publications, and the other 240 are weekly. 60 newspapers are published in the regions, but only three of them are issued on a regular basis. There are 9 national and 14 regional TV stations, with local TV stations in the southern, western and northern parts of the country. However, the Aran and Karabakh regions do not have local TV stations. 13 out of the country's 14 radio stations are based in Baku, with one in Nakchivan. The forum compared the domestic media situation with the Georgian and Armenian mass media. Georgia, with a population of less than 4 million, has 57 TV channels and 44 radio stations, while Armenia, with just 3 million people, has 42 TV channels and 30 radio stations. 30 of Georgia's TV channels and 22 of Armenia's are regional ones, outside of the capital. The only ways in which the Azerbaijani media is more developed is in terms of the number of regional newspapers. Despite the abundance of news material and human resources, the media in Azerbaijan is less developed than in its regional <b>...</b>
